When it rains it pours.

For Notre Dame its 6-6 season has come to an end as well as Charlie Weis’ five year tenure that produced a 35-27 record which just wasn’t cutting it. People have blamed Weis for the team not doing very well in the last couple of years and fans were hoping that with a new head coach next season could be one to look foward to. It looks like the Irish may have run out of luck because both starting QB Jimmy Clausen and starting WR and Golden Tate have both announced that they will not come back for their senior season and will be entering the 2010 NFL Draft. Without those two very skilled players whoever the next coach is going to be is going to have a tough job ahead of him. The fighting Irish have been having a tough time winning since the legendary Lou Holtz left in 1996 and another coach like Holtz might be what this program needs to turn this ship around.

Woods in near death accident?

November 28, 2009 by rruelas

Did Tiger Woods nearly die or was it just blown out of proportion by the media to get people’s attention. As we know celebrity deaths or near death experiences always catch the publics attention sonce they feel like they know the person because of all the times we’ve let them entertain us and welcomed them into our homes via the T.V. screen. With all the big name celebrity deaths this year it was believed that Tiger Woods had a near death experience. The statement released said that he was seriously injured because anyone that is admitted into the hospital after an accident is said to have suffered serious injuries but Woods was released in “good condition.” Woods was backing out of his driveway and drove into a fire hydrant and a neighbors tree at around 2:25 am m. When the police arrived on the scene Woods was on the street ner his wife and was going in and out of conciousness. Whether or not alcohol was involved in the incident is uncertain at this point but it seems that it is going to be looked into.

No Risk No Reward

On 4th and 2 Bill Belicheck decided to go for it rather that. punting the ball away to the Colts with a 6 point lead with just a little over before the two minute warning. The Patriots tried to convert for the first down to try secure their win but it fired back on them since they didn’t convert and the defense won on that play. It gave Peyton Manning and the Colts offense a very short field to go against and they capitalized on it. Beliheck has been criticized for going on this situation but he has been in this situation before and has converted it for the first down. This goes to show how much Belicheck trusts Tom Brady in these types of situations even though it may not always go their way. When Coach Belicheck was asked if he were in that situation again would he go for it or punt he responded by saying that he would go for it again if he had the chance too.

The Brett Favre of UFC us set to fight again.

November 14, 2009 by rruelas

Randy Cotoure is set to fight the a lot younger and faster Brandon Vera this Saturday at UFC 105. Randy Cotoure who is now 46 years old is going to fight on this light heavyweight bout (the firt one in three years) and is coming off of a 2 fight losing streak. Cotoure is in the UFC hall of fame (one of three) and Vera knows that if he beats a legend like Cotoure he will be seen as the next big thing. The tough part is going to beat Cotoure has great wrestling and is going to try to take to Brandon to the ground and beat him with some ground and pound while Vera is going to try to keep the fight standing up where he can use his powerful leg kicks and great speed. This is a tough fight to pick a winner for but of i had to choose I think Randy’s experience is going to go a long way and as a result he will win with a decision

Lakers on track.

November 7, 2009 by rruelas

Lakers seem to be on track to defend their title this season abd become the team with the most championships in the NBA. Even though the season just started they are looking solid with a 5-1 record and hopefuly on the road to the playoffs and championship. For the most part everyone that was on the team last year is still there except they lost one and gained one. Over the off-season the Lakers lost Trevir Ariza who is now playing for the Houston Rockets but acquired Ron Artest from the Houston Rockets. Artest is known for his hard nose defense but also for his very short fuse on the court. It seems like Phil Jackson and his staff have been handling Artest pretty well and hopefully he will be able to maintain his composure through the season. I think Phil Jackson will be able to keep Aftest in check especially since he already has experience with Dennis Rodman and he was able to somehow “tame” him. Overall the Lakers are looking like a solid team that should make it to the championships if they stay healthy and continue to have good team chemistry.

UFC 104 predetermined victor?

October 31, 2009 by rruelas

On Saturday October 24th UFC 104 was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. It was a title fight for light heavyweight between the title holder Machida and contender Rua. The fight lasted all five five minute rounds and went to the judges for decision. The judges all had the cards in favor for Machida despite the fact that everyone else including Dana White (UFC president) thought that Rua had won the fight. When they announced Machida as the winner the whole staples center was filled with boos from the crowd and Rua recieved nothing but cheers from the crowd. This decision begs to ask the question of how much hype of how good Machida was and how he had the least hits ever taken by any UFC fighter and how he was the best and so forth got into the heads of the judges. Sometime when you are told something over and over you start to believe it. Could that have been the case here?

Will USC learn from last year?

October 24, 2009 by rruelas

Last year SC lost in a huge upset against Oregon State which arguably kept them out of a shot at the National Championship. SC gets a chance at a revenge at Oregon State Saturday at 8:00 ET. SC is a huge favorite in this game (or we are told) but as we know any team can beat any other team on any given day. SC boasts a top ranked defense, averaging 4.3 sacks a a game and 9.4 tackles fo a loss per game but they are going to need their solid defense to contain Oregon States Running Back who destroyed them last year withhold almost 200 rushing yards. This year SC has the 4th best rushing defense so this should make for an interesting battle. On the other side of the ball it seems like SC should be able to exploit Oregon St. quite a bit with their QB Matt Barkley especially since now the whole playbook is a part of his arsenal. Oregon St. pass defense ranks 114 out of 120 teams, so on paper it would seem likely for Barkley and his recievers should have a filed day. Joe McKnight sees this as a huge game for the simple fact that last year he fumbled the ball which was recovered by Oregon and that led to a touchdown which put Oregon up 21-0 at the half. McKinght sId ge wants to steal the spotlight from Oregon’s RB not only To prove himself after last year but also because he was fairly quiet last week at ND. USC has not lost to Oregon at home since 1960 so we will see if they keep that amazing streak alive on Sat at 8:00 ET.

The things that people will do to be on T.V.

October 23, 2009 by rruelas

How far will you go for fame? Apparently for the Heene’s they will go as far as to make a fake phone call to the authorities claiming that their son was in a hot air baloon that was 10,ooo feet above ground. What did the parents get out of trying to make it big on a T.V. screen you may as. Well here is the answer, it looks like they are going to be getting charged with conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, filing a false report and attempting to influence a public official, those are are Class 4 felonies punishable by a maximum sentence of six years in jail and a $500,000 fine. The most sad part of this all is if the parents do go to jail their kids are going to have to live a couple of years without their parents, which could be argued is a good thing but it would still be sad to see the children suffer as a result of their parents stupidity. They figure that their parents taste of the spotlight during a recent wifeswap episode that they were on was their main incentive for wanting their own reality show. They had everyone fooled until during a live interview the youngest son Falcon accidentaly spilled the beans. Now with them facing the potential charges they vehemently deny it but who are they kidding?

What is needed to win the Nobel Peace Prize?

October 10, 2009 by rruelas

What does it take to win the Nobel peace prize? Promote equality among all like Martin Luther King, Gandhi, or Cesar Chavez. How about Dedicating your life to helping others like Mother Teresa or Pope John Paul II? What has Obama done to deserve such a prestigous award that has been given to people that have done nothing but good. Yes Obama has said that he wants peace especially among the Middle East but words are nothing unless they are put into action. Many people have said that they want peace and wish for it but unless you have done something about it you haven’t really even done anything to help the cause. Just because you wish for peace shouldn’t make you a canidate for the Nobel Peace Prize. Heck I wish for world peace should I get Nobel Peace Prize? Obama winning has put him up to the level that those other people which is not right because be hasn’t done nearly as much for society as they have.

Kimbo Slice over hyped?

October 2, 2009 by rruelas

It looks like Kimbo has been used as a way too get more people interested in UFC.  UFC is the fastest growing sport in the world and they have been trying to use Kimbo to get more exposure. Are we being forced to think that he is the best fighter just because of the way the UFC has been marketing him? Kimbo became popular on the internet via YouTube when he was shown street fighting many different opponents and beating them pretty severely.  Dana white the owner of UFC said that Kimbo would get killed in the UFC. Kimbo has beat Bo Cantrell, Tank Abbot, and James Thompson, but lost to Seth Petruzelli to TKO with only 14 seconds into the fight. Dana White made Kimbo an offer to be on The Ultimate Fighter show and he agreed. On Wednesday the episode where Kimbo fought Roy Nelson aired and Nelson came out the victor in the second round.  It seems to me that people think Kimbo is better than he actually is. Yes he has great power in his hands, has a great stand up game and can take some pretty good hits but that’s not the only thing MMA is about. Kimbo does not do well on the ground and his take down defense is not that great (but he is working on it) he is a fighter and not a mixed martial artist.  There IS a difference between the two most of these guys have black belts in different Martial Art systems and or have been training in MMA for years and know the ins and outs of the game. Kimbo however does have great potential especially with his work ethic and with time can be a great MMA fighter, but for now his skills aren’t well rounded enough to compete against someone who is going to take him down.
